Behavior Consultation Process

l

Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA)

The first step in our process is the Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA). This assessment helps us gather crucial information about behaviors of concern, such as:

    • Observable and measurable behaviors.
    • Antecedents: What happens before the behavior.
    • Consequences: What occurs after the behavior.
    • Interventions tried in the past and their effectiveness.
    • Setting events: Factors that might worsen the behavior.

Our behaviorists use this data to identify the purpose of the behavior and to develop strategies that teach more appropriate replacement behaviors.

Behavior Support Plan (BSP)

After completing the FBA, we create an individualized Behavior Support Plan (BSP) tailored to the individual’s needs. The BSP includes:

    • Strategies for changing antecedents and environments.
    • Techniques for teaching and reinforcing replacement behaviors.
    • Crisis intervention strategies if necessary.
    • Measurable behavioral goals and success criteria.

The goal is to make challenging behaviors irrelevant and to promote long-term positive change.

Training and Caregiver Involvement

Caregivers, parents, and staff play a vital role in the success of a BSP. We provide comprehensive training to ensure consistency in implementing the plan across different environments, including:

    • Home, school, and community settings.
    • Group homes and day programs.
    • Inpatient Treatment Centers

Ongoing communication between the behaviorist and the treatment team ensures that the plan is up-to-date and effective, with adjustments made as needed.
